The Grundy school system, in collaboration with Sewanee, the South Cumberland Community Fund Yale Child Center, Discover Together, Sequatchie Head Start, Scholastic, Inc., agreed to develop a country-wide collective impact initiative that seeks to bring all Grundy Country children up to reading level by the time they reach third grade. We developed a leadership structure to move this forward, and will meet on alternative months.

Fulfilling a basic need in a local, rural, economically distressed county, this workshop showed that when adequately organized, emerging for from expressed desires of local leaders, it should be possible to develop a quite complicated collective impact program that addresses basic needs of local communities, while showing the capacity to draw on resources from the University that will quite likely offer opportunities for students and faculty to implement impactful curricula and develop important assessment research.
